David and Robin:

We began our lives together in 1995.  Since Robin only had options for secular "religion" classes in college, she wasn't ready to jump right into missionary work without any formal Bible training.  So, soon after we were married, we began missionary training with New Tribes Mission. We completed that training in the spring of 2001.  After a short time of developing partnerships with churches and individuals, we headed off to Papua New Guinea.

Over the past 5 years in Papua New Guinea, the Lord has seen fit for us to be a part of church planting, but in a different way than we expected. He has led us to be a part of the team carrying out logistical and adminstrative support. For the full story of that journey, go to About the Team.

David

I grew up in a Christian home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In Vacation Bible School, around the age of five, I understood and believed that Jesus loved me so much that He came to die on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin.

My home church, Jenison Bible Church, was very active in missions. While I was in high school, the Lord began laying missions on my heart. The summer after I graduated high school, I found myself on my way to Africa with 3 other teens from my church on a short term trip with New Tribes Mission. As a result of that trip I entered New Tribes Mission training. Then, with one semester left of missionary training, the Lord allowed me to meet the woman I would soon marry. After we were married, we completed the training together, and have now served in Papua New Guinea for the past 5 years.

Robin

I grew up in a loving Christian home in Prescott, Michigan. Every summer, since the time I was old enough to go, my parents gave me the opportunity to go to summer camp at Camp Barakel. It was there I came to know Christ as my Savior at the age of eight. As a child, I always thought it would be "exciting and adventurous" to be a missionary. But, upon graduating from high school, I found myself heading to a four-year college with a full-tuition scholarship. I spent the summers of those years at Camp Barakel as a counselor. In 1994, while counseling at Barakel for the summer, I met a missionary candidate with New Tribes Mission, David Watters. When I met David, I realized my degree as a teacher could be used on the mission field. I also saw that there was a need. I started to consider the idea of being a missionary as something more than just “excitement and adventure.” It was something I could do… me, just an ordinary person.

I was born in 2001. I love to just have fun. Although my enjoyment of life has caused several accidents, it hasn't slowed me down. I don’t know why, but my parents always say that I am everyone’s friend. Maybe it’s because I love to hug everyone I meet. Check out my picture gallery
